It’s all about mind

While I was returning from an weekend shopping spree yesterday in an auto rickshaw, I was just amused at how human behavior is. In the middle of the road, there stood an elderly couple crossing the road. The road was busy after Dusheera celebrations and the elderly couple were in the middle of the road transfixed by the sheer number of vehicles approaching them. They were clinging on to each other, then all of a sudden, the elderly man just ran towards the road divider leaving the elderly woman in between the road. However, later when all the vehicles slowed down, the woman was able to reach the road divider.

I am amused at how the human mind is. If there were a war between the country you live and another, the first thing we will wish is that the war doesn’t reach our city. If by chance, it reaches city we all will wish that the war ends before it reaches our locality. However, when it reaches our locality, we will wish to see that our family does not suffer. And if something is coming to our door, we would be the first ones to face the sufferings. This is because we love our family more than self.

The above depicted stories are different, however both these stories tell the tale of human behaviour or mind. I don’t know what had happened in the old man’s mind in the first story that he left his wife in the middle of the road. May be he was just reacting to his mind’s instinct that “Me comes first, no one else.” However, in case of the second story someone will have ample time to think about what to do and what not to.

(While some may opine that one will leave the city by the time, the war reaches his/her city, the above situation is just a postulation nothing more than that.)

Cellphone on your Wrist

This morning, while browsing through the internet, I came across this marvelous looking mobile phone. It is a cell phone to be worn on wrist. It’s Hyundai W100 wrist phone. It boards a touch screen and has Bluetooth support for receiving calls. While its messaging features not released yet by the manufacturer, this small gadget will certainly spice up your life. Information on its likely cost and its release date by Hyundai is not available.

 

The choice between Gizmo and Wheeler

Had been waiting for Diwali offers since past few weeks. Only today, when I went through the morning newspaper, I found eye catching deals. Thinking of picking up a handycam during this festive season. It was a month or two back only I had bought a Digital camera. Now that I am bored with the camera, I think I need to pick up the handycam.

I believe my tryst with gizmo will never end, for I wish to pick up something or the other every time I visit an electronic store. Last month, I was thinking of saving some to buy me a decent four-wheeler before next summer. However, I don’t believe I will have the privilege to buy the four-wheeler as these days I am too much engrossed in electronic gizmo.

Yes, I may buy the wheeler with EMI’s but I have this damn goddamn attitude that, I should stay away from loans. Saving a huge amount for buying my piece of car and that too in hard cash will be real hard for me. So, for the time being I will settle with my like of gizmos and will forgo the wish to buy a wheeler.

Didn’t I say?

Didn’t I say in one of my earlier post that BSE Index will cross 18K within next few months. Now, the zoom from 18K to 20K will be faster if FII’s are not withdrawing funds. And if the FII’s stay put their funds at that indice, the market will capitalizing at around 20K-22K.

Some cautions:

• After breach of 20K, the growth will be slower as results of the rise in price of rupees will start hurting exporters from India.
• Retail investors should now stay away from short term investments.

Movie Review – Bourne Ultimatum

In his ultimate quest for his identity, Jason Bourne at last finds his real name, David Webb. Like each of Bourne series movie, Bourne Ultimatum is also packed with realistic actions. It is way above other action packed movies. Though the Bourne Series movies have concepts that are futuristic, the storyline is realistic.

Nobody cares for anybody

 

This is the world where no body cares for any body. I doubt, if you have seen a world where everybody cares for any body. Come back to reality, this is not satya, treta or dwapar yug rather it is kalyug that too ghor kalyug where everyone is just being himself.

How to stop online plagiarism?

If you are a writer or author sometimes you feel that the sequence of words you used in your content is somewhat familiar. May be the contents are same to what you wrote few days, months or years back. However, you might feel that it will all go fine as you are the author of the writing. But, one thing is to keep in mind that if your writing is to be published in web that kind of duplicate content could give way to negative rating by search engine robots or crawlers.

In such situation what you need to do is to write something that is your own. Yes, we can refer contents from other websites and resources but we should not copy the contents. As plagiarism gives your writing a negative rating, you writing could get unnoticed by search engines.

There are well published softwares which aid you in stopping plagiarism. However, they have their own limitations. Through some software, you have to check the contents one by one and then make the amendments. In some other software, you are enabled to check at once with the earlier writings as your database. However, these softwares are of high price. And if you are not a professional writer, this will certainly dig a big hole in your pocket.

I don’t take resort of either of these softwares rather I use free tools available online. I use technique which is a combination of blogs such as www.wordpress.com (any good blog) and www.copyscape.com.

After I finish my writing I publish my writings in my blog e.g. http://dipankar.wordpress.com and then go to www.copyscape.com and type in my blog URL and press Enter key. If there are other copies of my writing, it tells me immediately where I need to mend with colored background texts. If my contents are duplicate, I do mend the contents and re-publish it. This process goes on till www.copyscape.com tells my contents do not have any copy.

However, it is not 100% fool-proof. One may ask why? Copyscape searches of duplicate contents from Google crawlers database. So any content which has been published recently or which has been skipped by the crawlers or robots will not be checked for content duplication.

So, the best way to stay away from Plagiarism is to write on your own and without copying any thing from any source.

By those who ne’er succeed

During my last year of schooling I had gone through Emily Dickinson’s poem “Life” which read, “Success is counted sweetest by those who ne’er succeed . . .”. Yesterday’s cricket match when our team lost against Australia just reminded me of that poem. Someone might say, it is just a game, one wins and the other loses. However, I feel that we celebrate too much when we succeed. May be it’s because we have always failed or never succeeded.

An excerpt from Emily Dickinson’s “Life – Part I”

“Success is counted sweetest
By those who ne’er succeed.
To comprehend a nectar
Requires sorest need.

Not one of all the purple host
Who took the flag to-day

NDTV Coming with another channel

NDTV’s recently announced the plan to launch a channel for NCR. I personally feel that launching more and more channels from media houses is having a toll in its brand image. The picture quality of recently launched Metro Now from HT Group and Times of India is of average. In addition, the hosts presenting the show are real pathetic.

May be the time is not ripe for NDTV to launch a TV channel for NCR. However, may be the top brass fear that with the rising number of channels, its publicly known faces like Smeeta Chakrabarti, Shibani Sharma, Rajiv Makhni, Arun Thapar, Rajat Kapoor, Shatbhi Basu, Devika Anand, Manju Malhi may leave the organization, they are thinking of opening another channel.

Barring a few TV channels, all channels do not air fresh contents every minute. All these channels in India take the route of putting only around 5-8 hours of fresh contents. Others are just stale contents.

It will be like spamming of a new kind, i.e. TV channels. With hundreds of nationals and regional channels, Indian TV channels are going through the boom phase, however no CEO of the particular channel does know what may be the future.

I feel NDTV should be giving more importance to channels they are having at present rather than diversifying with another channel.

Human quest for knowledge

The ultimate question to anyone is which corporate giant will succeed in today’s highly competitive corporate world. Today Walmart may be the biggest corporate in the world, but it has to buy and sell the items. It also has to do marketing of the products or services it sells. Exxon Mobil may be second largest right now but within few decades when oil is no longer available in the world or when the energy use is shifted to cleaner fuels, its revenues will certainly deep.I personally believe, it will be some corporate, which will cater to the needs of people without putting incurring much expenses. I suppose, the penultimate corporate war will be succeeded by some corporate which will cater to broaden human quest for knowledge e.g. Google Search Engine. Some might opine why not other search engines. Yes, other search engines also have the scope but until and unless they come up with some technology or idea superior to Google idea, they will be unable to match the extent to which Google is catching on with our lives.

Some will also argue future technologies such as nanotech and robotics to take over the Google craze. However, I have my doubts as these technologies will certainly help us get more technologies in life, it will make us redundant of the very purpose we are living. Yes, we look for an easy solution to everything but we don’t need something which will be monotonous. A robot certainly will fetch us the water bottle but it will never react on its own. We have to feed every instruction; it will serve us like a house cleaner and will do whatever we command her to do.

However, that will decrease the zing thing we have in our life. Human mind is complex and we get bored very easily, and that is why we have our ‘quest for knowledge’. If we did not have that Google certainly would not have succeeded in Search Engine domain. Androids and robotics may change the way we work but it will not certainly change the way we think. We are human and let us remain that way.
