Of nose digging and ball scratching
“Welcome to New Delhi. The outside temperature is 40 degree Celsius” announced the flight stewardess as I was loosening my seat belt. It was my first journey in the flying machine. I did not pay any attention to the announcement. As I neared the flight stewardess near the door of the plane I heard her saying ‘Namaste’ with folded hands. I just smiled back when she did the same thing to me.
As I got down from flight, I saw everyone moving towards buses positioned near the temporary staircase. I did like everyone else was doing, to board the bus. The heat was tearing me apart. But the shock of my life was yet to come. Just as I tried sitting on the bus, I jumped in astonishment. The seats were real hot as if, it was prepared to burn my butts.
I had my first encounter with the scratching balls there in the bus. A male, most probably in his 30’s was scratching his balls even though a lady was sitting right next to him. My feeling was like “How come this guy do it here? He should at least wait for some privacy to do it.” I had a lot more questions in my mind right then, but I am unable to recall them at present.
It’s not that I don’t do any nose digging but I do it at my privacy, when no body is there. However, with Delhites I see it everywhere whether be it in bus, metro or when just while in walk. May be it has got to do with the pollution level in the city but every handshake that I offer at office is with some scepticism that the guy might be nose digging a few moments back.
Today, as I have become a part and parcel of Delhi I suppose even I have started to do nose digging in public. But, I am damn sure that I will do no ball scratching in public.
